sheldonm Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 I went to see drummer "Killer" Ray Appleton with his quartet last night in Indianapolis. The band sounded great with Steve Allee on Piano, Jamey Aebersold on Alto and Frank Smith on Bass. I stay for both set and heard a lot of great music; two tunes by Miles, a couple by Wes Montgomery (Killer played with Wes as a teenager), one by Gillispie, Mobley and many others. If any of you have seen Ray live, you know he has a lot of stories about many of the musicians he has played with through the years. One thing I can tell you is that this man does not like rap music and makes it clear in between each song. He goes on and on about P.Diddy and his money, Missy Elliott and her money, R. Kelly (and Michael Jackson) and his corruption of our youth, baggy jeans and butt cleavage , drugs, voilence and so on. He feels very strongly that rap is the "just plain bad". Some patrons seem to enjoy this commentary but I felt some thought it was too much. I seen him several times and it doesn't really bother me, what do you guys (and girls) think? Mark Quote
