BeBop Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) A while back, I ran into a cheap cache of NineWinds CDs. I couldn't keep them, so I gave them away, but saved a bunch on my MP3 player. (More accurately, one of my MP3 players...which explains the long time lag in my story.) Anyway, I'm shuffle-moding this morning and hear a nice version of Jumpin' Jax. NWCD0195 Paul Sundfor - Nascencey Fred Hersch (p), Drew Gress (b), Tom Rainey (d), John Swana (t) Swana isn't on most cuts. I won't say it knocked me out, but it was pleasantly swingin' stuff and I took the player out of shuffle mode and listened to the album straight through. Sundfor's tone hints at Phil Woods and Konitz. His musical sensibilities don't stray too far "outside". If someone told me he was an educator, it wouldn't surprise me. Anyway, just curious if anyone knows anything about Sundfor. Web search doesn't turn up much, except some link to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and a variety of musical endeavors. (Beardscratcher's Compendium, Seussical Broadway play, some work in San Diego...and, of course, for $35, I can see his criminal history.) Nascency is on Artistdirect.
