michel devos Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 I'm just re-reading Michael Lydon's book 'Ray Charles Man and Music' and would like to get as close as possible to the original releases by Atlantic and ABC,as discussed in the book.Evidently a difficult task with the infinite layers of reissues and compilations on the market... Although the 50 years album sounds excellent, it lacks most of the tunes of the original Genius+Soul=Jazz, which is a great pity... Therefore, I feel I'll go for these albums I found in the Djangos' on line store and appear readily available : Genius of Ray Charles Birth of the Soul -Complete Atlantic recordings 1952-59 Genius Hits the Road ABC Live (Newport 58 + Atlanta concert year ?) Genius+Soul=Jazz with the bonus album My Kind of Jazz Dedicated to you (with Betty Carter) Country and Western complete 1959-1982(?) Does anybody know about these ones, mostly about the remastering quality..?Is it woth spending the extra money to get the japanese reissues, such as Newport 58? Would be great to read about that.. Many thks B) Quote
