Bol
I like Neal Caine's "Backstabber's Ball" for which Goold and Stephen Riley forms a very neat front line, and also Riley's trio recordings. Wanted to see if people like Goold's own recordings. Or do they get tedious after a few songs?
BeBop
A wee bit of discussion here and here. I like Goold quite a bit. He's got a very distinctive approach melodically and, I'll say, rhythmically too - frequently playing across beats/measures. I really like Riley too (I've got his duo disc with Rob Brown and would recommend.) I've heard the trio stuff on the Bob Parlocha show, but haven't bought. He's got a very distinctive tone - something of a dry edge, if that makes any sense. Backstabbers Ball made my "want list" when I first heard about it, but I haven't heard it and haven't been buying, so it hasn't happened. Among current tenor players, these are two of my favorites.
