Playing with bad bass players

I have a bass player friend up here in Bellingham WA who's a really excellent

player ..great time, good note choices, and really can pull a group along by himself if necessary.

( which way up here in baja British Columbia is sometimes neccessary since most of the really good drummers are busy either in Seattle and/or Vancouver ..there are a couple decent drummers but the pool is not deep )

Anyway, when my friend ( who's an avid golfer ) has to do a gig with one of the weaker guys, he refers to it as: "Hit the Ball ..drag Charlie" ( an old golf joke not worth repeating )
