grey Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 I received an email from JVC Japan and while it is in Japanese and I have some of it translated, it contained a surprise. I claim no accuracy for the following. It appears that numerous Prestige/Riverside titles will be released yet again but this time in a different format. The items are listed as 'Format - DVA' and the best translation that I can get is DVD-Audio. For example; Format: DVA - Bill Evans - Portrait In Jazz - VIAJ 60008 Format: DVA - Miles Davis - Cookin' - VIAJ 60009 There are about 12 titles in the series. Does anyone have any info about this release. Am I interpreting the DVD-Audio format correctly? Quote
Claude Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 (edited) This page mentions upcoming DVD-As: http://www.jvcmusic.co.jp/new_rls/coming/coming.html I found it searching Google on "VIAJ 60008", but my browser can't display any usable information except the words "DVD-Audio". Maybe someone sees more. Edit: Here's another page that clearly mentions a DVD-A with the release number "VIAJ 60008" http://www.pasoq.co.jp/dvq/item/D110979000.html Edited January 26, 2004 by Claude Quote
grey Posted January 26, 2004 Author Report Posted January 26, 2004 Claude, Thanks for confirming my initial translation and that we will now have yet another format release of these titles---DVD Audio. I did a rough calculation of their cost from yen to dollars and they will sell for around $45. Quote
Claude Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Grey , do you have the complete list? They don't seem to be very original in their choice of titles. The two albums you mention are also available on SACD. And they are part of those 20-30 Prestige/Riverside albums which get reissued in various audiophile formats ALL THE TIME Quote
