cih Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 (edited) Does anyone know of any CDs with Norridge Mayhams' stuff, aside from the one on Document Records? The notes to that one make him seem something of an enigma, and Google just thickens the plot this link indicates a sizeable discography, and a known biography, but I can't find anyfink plastic Edited August 15, 2012 by cih Quote
jazztrain Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 There's some more information about him here: Mayhems I seem to remember that some of his sides with the Blue Chips show up on a CD collection or two on Columbia/Sony in their Blues & Roots series. Perhaps one of the gospel collections. OK. Here it is. Two selections ("Cryin' Holy Unto The Lord" and "Stay On the Right Side of the Road") by the Blue Chips appear on the CD "Preachin' the Gospel: Holy Blues" (Sony). Those two motivated me to pick up a used copy of the Document CD when I saw it several years ago. My recollection is that those two were the best of the bunch. The music on the Document CD, as best as I can recall, was a mix of gospel and later far more secular music that was less interesting. cih Posted August 15, 2012 Author Report Posted August 15, 2012 (edited) thanks - i'd missed that one. I like the Document CD, there's a very good female blues singer on the final few tracks - Johnnie Turnshill - and one of her tracks ("If I Had My Way"), was on a recent Dust To Digital compilation. The usual vocal group begins and she takes over halfway - it's great stuff. But the later stuff, seeing as he went on for so long, is hard to find. He certainly put out a strange mix of stuff (can't find any of my faves online..) Edited August 15, 2012 by cih Quote
