BillF Posted September 22, 2012 Author Report Posted September 22, 2012 Just ordered one. Will let you know. Looks like a good one for bop fans! Pleased to report it's a fine album. Eventually found I was able to listen to it here: http://www.myspace.com/thegregabatequintetmusic/music/albums/the-greg-abate-quintet-featuring-phil-woods-18688691 Greg certainly gets around the horns! Apart from his usual alto, he can be heard on flute, soprano and a very tasty baritone which I've never heard before. Phil, who's now 80, is standing the test of time very well - it's still very much the Woods alto and makes a nice contrast with the very compatible Abate horn. Nice sprightly group, with Phil's dependable long-term colleague Bill Goodwin on drums. It wasn't just a studio hook up; they have been - and will be - touring in the northern U.S. before Greg comes to the U.K. in November - hooray! Here's Phil - seated at work nowadays - with the same group, minus Greg: Quote
