lipi Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 I am looking for very early Tango (and Milonga, Candombe, etc.) recordings--before 1920, and the earlier the better. Things like acoustic recordings of Francisco Canaro and Roberto Firpo would make me very happy. The best I've found so far is this MP3 album: http://www.amazon.com/History-Tango-Anthology-Vintage-Recordings/dp/B0033IARBI/ The other titles in that series aren't quite early enough for my taste. Anyone happen to have recommendations for recordings to seek out? Quote
paul secor Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) The few tango recordings I have in my collection are pretty much from the 1930's, so I can't help on this one. edit: This CD seems to have Roberto Firpo recordings beginning in 1920. Don't know if that helps. Edited October 31, 2012 by paul secor Quote

That looks pretty interesting. The trouble is that Harlequin has an awful habit of de-noising the music to death. I don't know if that's the case for this disc, but I fear the worst. (If anyone here happens to have the CD and can comment on sound quality, that would be great!) In the mean time, I have tried contacting these folks: http://www.youtube.com/overjazzrecords They've posted some excellent early recordings. E.g.: Quote
