Now that the series of 25 double CDs has been completely issued, I broke down and bought the entire series, in several batches. I am thrilled. I had been holding off, expecting a massive deluxe box, but I doubt that will happen.

But after examining the discs, I am disappointed to find that Volumes 1 through 10 (20 CDs in all) are NOT real CDs, but rather are burned CD-Rs. The label side is "painted" just as any of the real CDs. As I have had bad experience with CD-R aging and degradation, this is upsetting. The graphics, by the way, are normal, glossy paper. But I can't compare the printing quality as I do not have first printings.

All my Volumes 11 through Volume 25 are real CDs

What do people know about Storyville's use of CD-Rs? When? How many titles? My guess, with the CD-R label appearance, is that these are not "fly-by-night" bootlegs or Amazon lowgrade replicas.

If anyone has musical quality, historical or discographical comments on the Treasury series, those are welcome. I would rather this thread be about Duke and the music than CDR gripes.

Edit: I now see there is another thread on this topic.....
