Anyone who thinks Brandford is anything short of a stellar musician hasn’t listened to any of his quartet from the last couple of decades. They are the closest approximation to the classic Coltrane Quartet that I’ve ever heard.
Hopefully, before Jim goes on his word salad rant response, everyone else will note that I clearly stated “approximation”.
The last I checked, the classic Coltrane Quartet albums were still in print and readily available.

I like Hermann Scherchen Brandenburgs.

That just makes my flesh crawl. Deserve each other but sadly neither of the countries that they "represent" deserve them.
Alas, Joseph de Maistre's "Every nation gets the government it deserves" rings true for both countries.

I've read a couple of his football pieces in the Times. I don't like his over the top, little susbtance style, and I don't walk away after reading him, thinking to myself, hmm, why didn't I think of that... I will wager he never played the game himself. At least someone in the NYT is writing about the WC. As we say in Russian, "where there's no fish, a crayfish is a fish".
I do think the Croats played with a lot more style and confidence than the French, but they just weren't lucky yesterday. Plus Vida couldn't keep up with Mbappe. And the keeper didn't step it up, when they relied on him. That Pogba goal...not world class keeping. With the new keeper, Croats are in the final of the UEFA Cup in 2 years.
I wish Croats all the best, but it might as well be a high point that would take them a while (if ever) to surpass. Remember that they weren't even the top in their qualification group (Iceland was). The keeper seemed like he wasn't feeling well, maybe his injury in 1/4 final with Russia finally got to him. If so, it was a big gamble for Dalić to let him play. He could have clearly tried to save the last two- yet he was standing still as the ball whizzed by.

Paris, France...Berlin, Germany,,,London, England. Is this a distinctly American thing to inform the other parties where a city is located? Used to annoy me when I heard it said like that, now I just don't care.
Perhaps just so that Americans won't mistake those for Paris, TX, Berlin, NH or London, OH, etc

Fantastic goal from Russia.

What a start to Croatia- Denmark game. 1:1 after only 4 minutes of play.

До свидания, España!
Gritty win by Russians- probably the only way they could pull it off. Glad Spain is out- their game is unbearable to watch. 1000+ passes = 5 shots on goal hardly makes a winning formula. -
Btw, the first goal by Koreans is a good pro argument for VAR.

Too bad Koreans had no chance to advance. But Mexico owes them A LOT. Didn't see that game but looks like Sweden just torn them apart...yet they're still marching on...Probably not far with a game like that.

Perhaps the worst day for Germany since May 9, 1945. Meanwhile, Mexicans totally owe their good fortune to Koreans. What a start to a day!
Is it too much to ask for Serbs to play like Koreans against Brazil?

My son is going to the Real Madrid summer training camp for two weeks, and we're dropping him off at the Santiago Bernabeu Sunday afternoon.I think today, pound for pound, is going to be the best game day overall. It's do or die for most of these teams. I will obstain from making predictions.
I was watching Portugal- Spain game in the main public square of Lisbon (Praca do Commercio). The vibe there was unbelievable, very positive, even when Spain took the lead.

France-Denmark- what a disgrace! Hope both will be eliminated in the round of 16.

I believe it was never issued on CD in US, but there is European import issued by Bellaphon.

The compilation CD "Mountain" has all but one track from the aforementioned album.

I've been reacquainting myself with this group with the quartet performances here before cracking the cellophane of the latest trio disc. I really like Lake's playing and this group is excellent. The trio work so well together and to my ears at least it always seems fresh even if older tunes are revisited. They have a decent number of recordings of which these are all I know . Any other standouts or recent Lake recommendations?

It's a Blue Gravy Train edition.

Oh cool! Then it must be back in print, or was it a used copy? That's an outstanding price, though.
It's been a few years since I looked it up on eBay, but I remember the CD box sets being sold for $300+! Insanity!
It was used, as it is still out of print.
-
Actually, it's easier to find Plugged Nickel set at decent price now, than, say, 5-7 years ago- unless you mean a Mosaic vinyl copy. I got a sealed copy of CD set for $80 on Amazon last year.
-
Perhaps you're right, Scott. Most likely the drop in Mosaic prices is a part of a broader trend of people bailing on CDs as medium, transferring their music to ephemera of computer files. Well, I remember 90's being a golden time for second-hand LP hunters. Not anymore. Maybe something similar will happen to CD. Maybe not.
I've never thought about buying music as investment- discovering a lot of various interesting music in affordable ways is what I'm after.

Could it be John Lennon? The nose is very much his, glasses too.
