  2. Went and hit some golf balls at the range this weekend for first time since the cold lifted. Still sore in muscles I didn't know I had.

  3. Congrats to Charles Lloyd, Carla Bley, George Coleman Sr. & Joe Segal of Joe & Wayne Segal's Jazz Showcase on being honored as NEA Jazz Masters. Two in one year from Memphis. That's pretty good Memphis!

  4. Do you think Bird would have dug Ornette? I have wondered about this. Not that Bird is the ultimate arbiter of good and bad, but Ornette was arguably the next major innovator in the music and Bird died JUST before Ornette came on the national scene.

  5. A colleague just summarized Facebook very well and succinctlyl: "Of course FB is [impossible] to get people to move off that platform. Facebook does have a way of fooling you or seducing you with likes and engagement, but it’s all [within] Facebook." TRUTH. FACEBOOK ENGAGEMENT IS NOT REAL.

  6. RIP Eduardo Galeano. A remarkable life lived. I have a lot to catch up on.

  9. AARON GOLDBERG TRIO - "THE NOW" A post-bop pianist of exemplary taste and range, Aaron Goldberg has worked mainly in collaborative settings since the release of his 2010 album, “Home.” His superb new work, “The Now,” due out on Sunnyside on Tuesday, features Reuben Rogers on bass and Eric Harland on drums — Mr. Goldberg’s main rhythm team for the last 16 years — and inhabits precisely the sort of high-proficiency, no-nonsense, self-possessed air you...

  10. 'Everything Is Cyclical': Christian McBride Looks At 2015 In Jazz; McBride, host of NPR's new program Jazz Night In America, talks to ALL THINGS CONSIDERED host Audie Cornish about two exciting new jazz records (both FAM clients) Philly's Fresh Cut Orchestra's "From The Vine" (Ropeadope, out Feb 17) & pianist Aaron Goldberg Trio's "The Now" (Sunnyside Records, out Jan 20) #jazz

  11. ARTISTS & EVERYONE REALLY: You want to hear an artist give a good interview? Check out Aaron Goldberg on The Checkout from last night (time is relative). It's some deep conversation. From Warne Marsh to Charlie Parker to the depth of Brazilian songwriting (particularly Chico Buarque). Thanks to Simon Rentner for hooking it up. Link below.

  12. Very excited for Aaron Goldberg Trio's run this Thursday through Sunday at Jazz Standard celebrating the release of "The Now" on Sunnyside Records with his longtime trio of Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland. Come one. Come all. Hear him tonight on The Checkout from WBGO talking about the new album.

  14. Does anyone have a transcript or recording of what CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE said in his 2015 #jazzconnect conference Keynote? Really want that to play to clients! #inspiration #realtalk

  15. A fascinating article in the New Yorker by Adam Gopnik about the work of famed sociologist Howard Becker, who did "field research" on jazz musicians as a pianist in 50s/60s, and now holds court in France as a cult academic hero. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/01/12/outside-game

  16. Wow. Can't believe about Mike Piazza getting snubbed by the Baseball Hall of Shame. But congrats to the players of my youth on their induction; Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson (ugliest player of all time), John Smoltz and Craig Biggio. I have all your cards somewhere in Maryland.

  17. We miss your smile, your laugh, your passion. But most of all we miss that unflappable energy that you exuded every time we were in your presence. We miss the way you brought out the best in us all. We love you Izumi Uchida. Always & forever.

  18. Myra's band Snowy Egret has a recording coming out via enja in the States on March 7 with the very personnel you see above except with Ron Miles on trumpet instead of Ben Goldberg on clarinet.
  19. Very thankful that my job allows me to spend a day taking master musicians Nels Cline and Julian Lage around to interviews and then go see the Matt Wilson Christmas Tree-O with Jeff Lederer, The Wonder Boy Paul Sikivie w/ Duchess, Chris Bergson, Gary Versace, Martin Wind, Esperanza Spalding at Jazz Standard. And then if I'm totally insane, after that, head to another gig at in Brooklyn, for instance, Ryan Keberle & Catharsis!

  20. Circumventing email spam filters & GMAIL Promotions filter is a dirty job but someone's gotta do it.

  22. Dude, I, I finally, I got the uh, venue I wanted. Uh, I’m Performing my dance quintet–you know, my cycle–at Crane Jackson’s Fountain Street Theatre on Tuesday night, and well I’d love it if you came and gave me notes.

  24. Where do you go in Manhattan or Brooklyn for late-night fish tacos preferably raw fish or tuna tartare?

  25. Gotta say this has gotta be one of the strangest bookings I've ever seen at Zinc Bar. It will definitely bring some new bodies into that room. FRIDAY 14 NOVEMBER 2014 Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey with New Zion Trio Zinc Bar, New York, NY, US
