2 posts in this topic

Hello all...Just join here

Would like to know if there a Book out that would tell you if you have rare 33's/LP's??

My fatherinlaw pass away years ago and he back in the day was a sax player before and after WarII the stories he would tell. I was looking in some boxes we had store away and found alot of 33's/LP's.

Just some of the Names: Count Basie, Billy Holiday, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitgerald, Thelonious Monk, Ramsey Lewis, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Bobby Timmons Trio, Willis Conovers, Sunny Rollins and more....

Now the one that has me boogle is (Count Basie Orch. Savoy Ballroon June 30th, 1937) I know it was recorded there at the ballroom in NY but can't find out who recorded it any help here would do.

Thanks

Randy

Welcome, Randy!

The standard reference guide for jazz vinyls is this one

Far from perfect since prices for vinyls tend to fluctuate but the book will give you an idea of what's rare these days.

Here is the Count Basie band lineup for that Savoy Ballroom appearance:

Buck Clayton,Ed Lewis, Bobby Moore (tp) Eddie Durham (tb,g) George Hunt, Dan Minor (tb) Earl Warren (as, bassax) Lester Young, Herschel Evans (ts) Jack Washington (alto, bar) Count Basie (p) Freddie Green (g) Walter Page (b) Jo Jones (d) Jimmy Rushing, Billie Holiday (vcl)
