GA Russell
OK, I've tried to follow the advice of as many of you as I could, and I have put up my first two Mosaics today. If I have time, I'll put up another two tomorrow. Sandy says that it is better to clump them together rather than to string them out. Take a look! Maybe you can get something cheap! mellowT
Frankly, I'm shocked, shocked... ... that you haven't listened all the way through that desert-island Bud Shank set. ... that you are offering such a great deal on that Buddy De Franco. GA Russell
Thanks, guys, for your words of encouragement! I put three up today. I'm still learning. The idea was to have all three end at 4:50 pm eastern on Monday. But I made a mistake on the first one, Curtis Fuller, and didn't figure out how to correct it until 5:05 pm. I haven't decided what that will be, but I hope to put up three.
GA Russell
I have a new best friend! Someone has purchased the Buddy DeFranco box at $50 per cd. However, because I am a new seller, PayPal is holding the payment until delivery.
GA Russell
I have another new best friend. Someone has bought the Chet Baker Live at $38 per cd.
GA Russell
I put up three more today. The book I read suggested that you offer some sort of bonus for Buy It Now, so the past couple of days I have offered Free US Shipping. Today I offered old clippings of the Let's Get Lost movie review, and a very old Mosaic brochure. GA Russell
Two more today. Because so many people feel that Sunday and Monday are the two best days to end an auction, I decided to make these two five-day auctions instead of seven. We'll see if any Herbie Nichols fan jumps for the transcription of one of the songs from the set. I'm also curious to see if there is any interest in the two old Mosaic catalogues I am offering. .:.impossible
What are you doing with your back-up copies?
GA Russell
I never got around to playing them! I'm sure they're somewhere. In those days, Mosaic did not seal the CDs, so I made a copy of everything. I know that the CDs in question were played only the once because I have never heard them! Glad your auctions are going well. I assume your buyer is in the US, $45 per CD for international shipping seems a bit on the high side. GA Russell
John, eBay is setting the price for shipping. They are not charging the US Buyers enough, and I am screwed $10 per sale because of it. I had a guy from Britiain also comment about how high the shipping charges are. I have the overseas shipping set for the UPS "Savers" rate. I don't know what else I can do.
sjarrell
Something's wrong if the international post is that high. First class international should be around $15 per set, Priority in the 25-30 range. Are you using USPS or something else?Nevermind, I just looked. Maybe you should look into USPS for international! I was the person who commented . You could add a comment saying that shipping would be charged at cost and that people should ignore the international rates being quoted. GA Russell
I've just gotten off the phone with fedex. We'll see if they are less expensive.
Cliff Englewood
I have to say I would be very interested to find out what your "actual" profits will be, after all the deductions and fees, not to mention the time you have put into the whole thing. Has it been worth it so far?
GA Russell
Cliff, I too am curious! The fees seem pretty high to me. Overnight, two Europeans wrote about the Curtis Fuller and Ike Quebec sets' shipping charges. I replied as follows, and added this text to all of my auctions: "I don't know how eBay determines its shipping figures. If you prefer, I will ship it USPS insured and charge you the exact amount." sjarrell
USPS Priority International carries around $70 indemnity built into the price.
Cliff Englewood
Cliff, I too am curious! The fees seem pretty high to me. Really?, how much are we talking, either in % or in $ of your total sales.
GA Russell
I won't know until the sale is completed, but between the eBay fees and the PayPal fee, it looks like 25%. Plus, eBay is shortchanging me on the UPS charge.
GA Russell
The Buddy DeFranco buyer has given me positive feedback, so that has freed up enough money to pay for the shipping of the other sets! That takes a load off my mind. One of the things weighing on my mind is that I set the reserve prices too low. Oh well, it's too late now. GA Russell
I am a little surprised to see that the items with the most watchers (by far) are the Bud Shank, the Curtis Fuller and the Chet Baker Studio.

Plus, eBay is shortchanging me on the UPS charge. Ouch!!!, I thought it would be more like 10%-15%, 25% is too much IMHO. BTW, thanks for putting me off ebay for life.
