GA Russell
The Myers Swingset "Song For Lydia" from the live album The State of This City out now Impacting Now! Sparked by the decision to split time between Austin and Kansas City, pianist Jackie Myers is more and more becoming a model citizen in the jazz scene of Missouri. Myers’ assimilation was assured early on with the release of a live album, The Instrumental One, recorded at The Green Lady and by picking up a gig as musical director on the nationally syndicated program 12th Street Jump at local NPR affiliate KCUR. As leader of The Myers Swingset, she has managed to turn The Green Lady’s sister establishment, Black Dolphin, into a town hall of tunes for a new live instrumental release The State of This City, out now. The strut and swagger of “Song For Lydia” came down (and was named after) the street from Myers’ home where “the neighborhood kids were blasting music.” With her practice session competing with predominantly hip hop and pop tunes, she decided to play along with the sounds to ear pleasing results.
