Duke Pearson-Mosaic Select 8
Roy Eldridge-Complete Verve Studio Sessions
-
Not having been exposed to much of Pearson's music, this set is a revalation to me! His piano stylings and arrangements are fantastic. I especially enjoyed the Brazillian rhythm sessions. The set is a great collection of varied music styles, all very enjoyable.

From the Roy Eldridge page in the new Mosaic catalog:
"In collaboration with the Verve Music Group, the Eldridge set is expected to be available at retail sources OUTSIDE North America shortly after its initial November 2003 release. These sets are part of the limited edition of 7500."

Scorecards! We need scorecards!!
...and programs! You can't distinguish the Players without a Program!

Got my copy of this set this evening The photo on the box and booklet is the same as the one on the cover of the catalog.

Wonder if I'd get a warning for nicknaming the board "Wingissimo or Deepissimo"?

.
Long story short (too late!), continue about your business. So many of you guys are very friendly and welcoming! I'd rather spend time getting to know those kinds of people than talking about people I dislike.
Hoping this made a lick of sense,
Jazzypoo

A Happy and Safe Holiday to Everyone here!

I rarely check over there anymore. Any time that I post, I usually get some mean-spirited,smart-assed reply and there is usually some pointless and vile argument going full tilt. I have enough aggrivation in my life right now without having to look for some more. This board is the place to be, even though Blue Note won't acknowlege us as an alternate board to theirs. Maybe that's a Plus too!

I was embarrassed to admit it after my smart remark to Tod, but mine actually came a few hours later...
Guess they dropped yours off shortly after they left my back porch!
-
Haven't seen mine yet and I'm only a state away. Any mention of possbile new sets down the road?
Nothing about it in this catalog.
-
In addition to descriptions of the forthcoming Roy Eldridge Mosaic set and the Pearson and Amy Selects, there's a nice piece about Duke Pearson by Michael C.
-
So the release date for this has slipped to January? I wonder how missing the Christmas shopping season can be a good idea for Sony/Columbia?
Now its been postponed until March.
-
Does anyone know anything about a Helen Merrill disc called "Lilac Wine". Its a Japanese release, but I wonder if and when its ever been released here in the US.
-
[ Which Jackie?? - and which Roy??
-Those guys that did the act in Vegas with the lions and tigers, I think.
-
Is this the same Norah that has some connection to a certain sitar virtuouso?
BTW, Is there a Country version of this song called "Waltz For Wynona"?
-
I bought Vol One a few years ago and when I tried to order Vol 2, it was out of print. I recently bought the 7x7 book which is a combination of both volumes.

I was just watching some of the classic 39 episodes of the Honeymooners that just came out on DVD. Seems like they get funnier each time, I see them. Carney and Gleason were the perfect team. RIP, Ed Norton!

Best Wishes for a Happy Birthday to our old pal from the Blue Note Bulletin Board and Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. Lots of Good Cheer & JRVGs!

I just caught the last of this program. Here's the hype from WGBH FM's site:
Monday,Nov.10 -7 pm, WGBH 89.7
Host Eric Jackson features new limited-edition boxed sets from Mosaic Records, including those of Gerry Mulligan,Randy Weston,Paul Chambers and John Patton. THE COMPLETE VERVE GERRY MULLIGAN CONCERT BAND SESSIONS is the culmination of Mulligan's long search for the "perfect ensemble"that would bring his ideas to life. Over the course of 20 years, Mulligan gathered musicians for his Concert Jazz Band, which was lauded for the unique, pianoless arrangements featured in this collection.
Randy Weston, Paul Chambers and John Patton are other artists featured in box sets from Mosaic Select, a new series that focuses on numbered and often overlooked jazz recordings. These jazzmen may not be widely known, but the work of each has left its mark on jazz............
Join Eric Jackson as he explores these and other eagerly awaited Mosaic Records reissues.

---- This is a five hour plug for Mosaic and I hope it brings them many new orders and customers---

I'm happy to hear that you got the set. I hope that you will enjoy. I have this set and highly regard it. One of these years maybe we'll see a Mosaic version on cd!

I've come off 4 months of chemo therapy during which I lost most of my hair ---everywhere. I didn't have to shave in all that time. Now that the effects of the treatments are wearing off, I'm starting to sprout chin whiskers and even re-growing my moustache. I've been using the Mach 3 for the past couple years and have resumed using it. However I'll soon be starting radiation and they tell me I can't shave with a manual razor so looks like I'll be in the market for an electric job soon!
Any suggestions on a descent electric razor anyone? Not looking for anything exotic as after the radiation is through, I hope I can go back to the Gillette product.

This is a treasure trove of great music in a variety of settings. While I have never been a big fan of those Verve string sessions, I really dig the excitement of those jam sessions with Diz, Benny Carter and Sweets Edison. I've listened to most of this set and its very satisfying. Mosaic has really done themselves proud with both the Mulligan and the Eldridge sets in 2003!
