  1. So - bumping this one up because I am curious if anyone has this or has any impressions (could not find Sidewinder's posts after this). Listening to the Mosaic set now and then I was going to throw on some 40th Anniversary goodness. Do I need this? I mean, come on, this is about my 15th version of this record. Hoping that I am fine between the Mosaic and 40th Ann (I do like the vinyl in that set by Wilder/Calbi) and I don't need to drive over the Music Direct soon....

  2. Those are all great tables and make wonderful music. If it were me, I would go Rega. My main system had a P3-2000 for over a decade (I bought a VPI Classic last fall and it took me to another level). The Rega is in a second system now but it still gives me hours and hours of pleasure. Lots of good advice/thoughts in this thread, particularly from BeBop. On the cart front, I had a Goldring for a number of years and upgraded a few years back with a Clearaudio cartridge and it was worth the dough.

  3. I've had this happen to a bunch of discs (some from mosaic) and they all play fine still. My Hard Bop has this issue as well.

As for Mosaic, it ain't Amazon. We are talking shoe string budget there. Besides, I think shipping is only a couple of bucks to Stamford if you send media mail.

  4. Cool. Thanks again for the advice. Trying to decide to pick up some of those Atlantic/Warner and Blue Note gems.

Back on topic - I feel very fortunate to have all of these options available to me. I suppose it depends on my mood - I love vinyl but a lot of times, I am just too lazy (I am a big fan of the Music Matters series, for example, and sometimes I don't want to get off my ass every 8 minutes). But, as I have purchased better equiptment, I'm not going to lie - it has the ability to make an already enjoyable recording a new experience (or worse, as my systems tend to not be very good at hiding problems). At the end of the day, though, I am happy as a clam to pop in some recording into my discman/"low-end" grado combo that I would have never thought I would be able to listen to in the days of my youth (70's).

But very interesting, Bev, in terms of the "pro-CD" movement. I suppose only time will tell before there is a CD resurgence.
