How about George Bassman?
-
How about banjo, tuba, and clarinet?
M 'N' M Trio: Jimmy Mazzy, Eli Newberger, and Joe Muranyi:

Ghost,
Do you know Powell's 1987 session for Chiaroscuro? It's rather good.

The eagle has landed.

A friend (whose last name begins with "A") received his box this morning. Me? No shipping notice yet. Anyone else have anything to report?

A few more jump to mind:
"Golden Cress" is superb.
Slippery Horn
Ducky Wucky

A bit of a mystery. If you look at the LP, the tunes other than "Lyons Busy" are credited to Bobby Correll. (who is also listed on the cover) It appears that he was (and still is) a pianist. Are you sure that Brubeck is on the rest of the album? The other two musicians shown on the cover (Frank Blake and Bob Kindle) may be pseudonyms. What is the instrumentation on the other sides?
Perhaps Crown was trying to sell the album as a Brubeck item by including a single side by him.

Well, the Wordle archive is gone.
Here's the message displayed on the archive site:
👋 Thanks for playing!
Thank you for playing the Wordle Archive, and for all your nice comments and feedback that helped make the site better.
Sadly, the New York Times has requested that the Wordle Archive be taken down. However, you can still play the daily Wordle over on their official site.

Damn! She was a great player. I managed to see her twice during some of her too infrequent trips to the east.
RIP. You'll be missed.

I’ve been revisiting some late-1970s sitcoms lately—Taxi, One Day At A Time, WKRP In Cincinnati, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Soap, primarily—and am being reminded of how many great theme songs there were for shows back then—catchy one-minute snippets that established a very specific mood and became a sort of Pavlovian cue for spending half an hour in a favorite fictional setting. In addition to the programs above, here are some other notable show themes—some instrumental, some with lyrics:
The Rockford Files
Sanford and Son
Alice
The Six Million Dollar Man (hello, Oliver Nelson!)
Good Times
Happy Days
All In The Family
Barney Miller
Baretta
S.W.A.T.
... gotta be more, what am I forgetting?
If you broaden the time period a bit, I would throw in The Avengers and Mannix.

is this on Bandcamp? I can't seem to find a download link anywhere - but that's probably me being a bit dim

Curious to see what happens with the NYT acquisition...
My guess is that they'll do the same thing with Wordle that they've done with the crossword puzzle and Spelling Bee. They'll make some available for free on a day by day basis but will move the archive/on-demand option behind their Diversions paywall.

Oh, not this one:

Due tomorrow for me too (shipping notice received yesterday afternoon). Counting the hours!
Don’t get your hopes up. Just got a “delayed” message from UPS. 🥺

Shipping notice at last. Due tomorrow.

It’s fairly easy to find the image. Just search for “Alex Steinweiss.” He generally is credited with the idea of putting art, instead of plain covers, on 78 albums. This one appears to be his first effort.

I had hoped that it was an early April Fool's joke. No such luck.
There's an associated concert tour for those who want to suffer.
-
Got a download yesterday. Hope to listen later.

Just got an e-mail from Mosaic. There will be a 6-CD Tristano set drawn from his private tapes. Pre-orders not accepted yet. Release in mid-November expected, although we know how those dates can slip.

I was going to mention Wynton Kelly, but he already came up. How about Hank Jones?

I just ordered a Buddy Defranco album (“Mr. Lucky,” Pablo, 1981) with Dailey. Never heard of it, don’t know anything about it.
It’s excellent. I recommended it in August in this thread.

Not just you! It’s a very common mistake.

I agree. Particularly David Raskin, who some called the grandfather of film music.
But otherwise that's a damn good list that Crisp put up. Particularly the politicians.
MG
Raksin, not Raskin.

RIP.
Heard a lot of great music from him in my formative years.
WUSF Cancels ‘All Night Jazz’ Radio Show After 56 Years

Well, this sounds exciting (not):
>>>>>
WUSF’s General Manager JoAnn Urofsky told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that the jazz show “will be replaced with great public radio programs beginning Monday, October 31.” Those programs include the news program “1A Plus,” the current affairs show “As It Happens” and the second hour of “Science Friday,” which highlights entertaining stories about science and technology. “The changes mean WUSF 89.7 will become entirely focused on news and information, including weather and safety, so we can better serve the residents of Florida.”

The article mentions Vic Hall as a frequent guest. I remember him from the record bashes in New Jersey.
