Baseball is back! Sort of.
I always was impressed by how realistic the Strat-O-Matic games could be.
-
Not sure how many of you have seen this. Strat-o-matic is simulating the 2020 season day by day and posting updates each day at 2 pm.

Devers is off to a good start with the Red Sox with 3 HR and 5 RBI already after 2 games.

I really like John Tchicai, although I will probably never learn to spell "Tchicai" by memory.
No matter, that guy could play.
Yes, he could.
Here's a nice one that a friend produced and issued:

This was discussed in an earlier thread. See here:

You might try contacting his son George Schuller at schulldog@pipeline.com. Perhaps he can help you out.

Some of these parallel issues were slightly different as I recall.

It looks like the second one (the Japanese issue) came out in 1980, prior to the domestic issue (1981).
What about these?

Many cases in this area and elsewhere are being traced back to a Biogen conference that was held recently in Boston. The St. Patrick's Day parade in Boston has been cancelled. Harvard and MIT are sending students home for spring break and telling them not to come back until the fall. Massachusetts has declared a state of emergency, although it's not clear what that really means at this stage.

I emailed the sad news about Bill Smith to the above mentioned friend, and he corrected me on a few things:
"It was Prix De Rome, and Bill won it for Musical Composition in 1958, four years before me.
Bill never played with Romano Mussolini
Romano's bass player, Carlo LaFredo, brought me into Romano's band
At the time Carlo was playing with the American Jazz Ensemble, the quartet led by Bill and Johnny Eaton."
Tony Scott played with Romano Mussolini. Perhaps that's the source of the confusion.

Wynton Kelly on a record is one of many good house keeping seals of approval as far as I am concerned.
I agree. His presence on a record is almost a guarantee of musical value.

Smith appeared on several albums on Contemporary (in addition to his own Folk Jazz), such as:
- Red Norvo. Music to Listen to Red Norvo By
- Shelly Manne. Concerto for Clarinet & Combo
- Barney Kessel Plays Carmen.
He also is on albums by the American Jazz Ensemble on RCA Victor and Epic.

Sorry to hear this. He used "William O. Smith" for his classical efforts and Bill Smith in jazz settings. I love his "Folk Jazz" album.

Hampton Hawes. The Sermon.
individual solo tracks by Ray Bryant. Same for James Williams.
Sitting at Heathrow between flights. Can provide more information when I get home.

Good thing we don't have a "sitting on sofa" thread. You'd have a trifecta!
