  1. Boy said to have floated off in balloon found safe

By P. SOLOMON BANDA AND IVAN MORENO

    ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITERS

A 6-year-old Colorado boy feared to have floated off in a helium balloon has been found safe at his home, hiding in a cardboard box in the garage attic. Sheriff Jim Alderman turned to reporters during a news conference and held thumbs up and said, "He's at the house." Alderden said an investigator on the scene saw the boy and he was fine.

He said the boy apparently has been in the attic the whole time.

The boy's brother had said he saw 6-year-old Falcon Heene get in the balloon before it took off. The flight last two hours and spanned 50 miles and set off a frantic search.

  2. How much longer is Felix under contract ??? I don't think Seattle has the resources to keep him there longer than that.

Baseball really needs a salary cap.

They're a wealthy team, or at least before Oct. 2008. They set the record (I'm guessing) for most money spent per loss just the year before. True the big 2 from the AL East spend more, but unless something drastic has happened I think they could resign him. It's just whether the bright lights of a bigger city appeal to him.

This is all correct. The M's were the first team to have a payroll over 100K and have over 100 loses. Bill Bavasi (with all due respect to his late great pop) is/was one of the worst GM in the history of baseball. He gave huge contracts to the likes of Carlos Silva (four-year, $48 million), Miguel Batista (Three years, $25 million), Richie Sexon (four years, $50 million) and Kenji Johjima (three years, $24 million). Not to mention trading away Adam Jones and George Sherrill to the orioles for Erik "I live on the DL" Bedard.

Regarding Felix though, he did say after the last game of the year that he'd like to play his whole career in Seattle. Even after last years horror show. That says a lot about the way new GM Jack Zduriencik & new skipper Don Wakamatsu (and the addition of Griffey and Sweeney) have turned things around. I think Felix will stay...at least for a few more years. He's under contract now until 2011 as it is now. A nice little three year extention would be sweet.

  3. BTW, I went to the Mariners final game of the season last week and watched Felix Hernandez get his 19th win. This kid is something special. I believe he should get the Cy Young. Some think that other kid from Kansas City should get it, but with or without him, the Royals would have still sucked. Without Felix the Mariners would not have been the bounce-back story of the year.

There are rumors here in Boston that the Sox are going to make a hard push for a trade to get King Felix!!!

Really? The Red Sox better start by offering Beckett, Pedroia and a top draft pick. And even then it's not worth it. Felix is the real deal and he's only 23.

  4. I've found that Betty's character seems to get more enigmatic as time goes on. Or maybe just more unlikeable. She has a very brittle personality, and doesn't seem to make any effort to understand the people around her.

Boy, I feel bad for Sal! And I guess he's not going to be on the show anymore, which kind of stinks.

I'm not so sure about that. That phone call he made to his wife from the phone booth toward the end was weird. Did you notice the characters in the back ground? They looked like the Village People circa 1962. Plus, it seems that this gay son of a cigarette tycoon would not want this to come out, no? We'll see. Logic would dictate that Joan is no longer on the show as well, but you know she'll be back in some fashion. Pete's sleazy little rendezvous (rape?) of the polish girl will no doubt bring her back into the picture.

  6. Also congrats to the Yankees and the transformation of A-Rod. I know everybody hates the guy but after the injury and roids controversy he came back, kept his mouth shut and was a team player all season. To come up big in the post season with all of the baggage he carried going in deserves some props imo.

    Fuck A-rod!

Signed: a disgruntled Mariner fan with a good memory.

  7. Yeah it did, I highly recommend you refrain from trolling other members over some comment made in another thread. Sure you feel the need to defend yourself, despite whatever validity was in that statement, but that thread is closed, so get over it. Take it up in a private message, but don't bring that crap into other topics.

    I hear ya' Jim.

    Movin' on...

    Go Phils!

I would start with this - I think this might be out of print however.

It contains two of the most smokin' west coast sessions EVER! The first half is by clarinetist John Carter and features Bobby Bradford on trumpet. The second session is by Horace Tapscott (one of the most under-appreciated jazz masters), and features a young Arthur Blythe.
