  1. I've posted this on a message board (a gbv board, mostly big Who fans). I was wondering what people here thought.

The Who are a favorite band of mine, but I feel that starting with The Seeker, The Who's sound, studiowise got samey & a bit dull. A number of the Lifehouse songs sound samey to me. The only 70's albums I still love are Quadrophenia ( also samey, but I love it anyway) & Who Are You (not sure why, I've just always loved this one...I think the songs don't sound as depressing as they probably are especially coming after By Numbers).

I've also realized I'm not as crazy about songs like I'm A Boy, Happy Jack (though this rocks live), Dogs. When their studio sound is thin, it always takes away from them.

I listened to Tommy today and had to admit something I've felt for a while, a lot of the songs aren't that good. A lot of songs just to move the plot. That's why I like Quadrophenia better, it's a series of impressions rather than a linear story. Works much better. There are some great songs on Tommy, but not that many. Anyone else?

  2. I had one album by them, The Colour Of Spring, I think it was called. not as electronic thank god. It has a great song on it called Life's What You Make It. Absolutely the best thing I heard by them. The whole album was good. I haven't heard it in years.

  3. One funny thing I still love to tell people about: I was 15 or 16 (about 1985 or 1986) sleeping over my friends house and he always had the tv on to fall asleep. I fell asleep and apparetntly sit upright, Looked at him and said: "Is David Lee Roth still in Van Halen?" He said no and I laid back down. I guess a minute or two later I actually woke up and he's looking at me grinning. He said, "Do you know what you just did?" I was completely asleep. The question I asked just makes me laugh every time I tell it.

  4. This set wasn't part of the original plan of box sets. Do you think that that they'll do one for the last era 1980-85? I won't buy that one. I kind of wish they did one for the Mobley era only so everything could be in this series. It could've been Someday My Prince Will Come, all of the Blackhawk & the Carnegie Hall albums and called it From The Blackhawk to Carnegie Hall & been about 5 or 6 cds.

  5. My brother used to have this and I remember seeing the movie a few times. A few years ago I borrowed it from a library in still loved quite a few songs on it. I just got it from Amazon and certain songs bring a tear to my eye and I'm not religious. I just love the songs:

    What's The Buzz

    Everything's Alright

I Don't Know How To Love Him

    King Herod's Song

    Superstar

The end of Trial Before Pilate always gives me chills:

Don't let me stop your great self-destruction

DIE! if you want to you misguided martyr

I wash my hands of your demolition

DIE! if you want to you innocent puppet!
