  8. Who doesn't own any Mosaic sets?

    Hi,

    - I live in Montreal far far away (in distance and $) from any TOCJ or any OOP cd's

    - Almost all of my collection (about 700) come from buying on Internet. From the good time of Music Boulevard (with their tons of coupons that you could combine at that time :g:g ) to present eBay possibilities (not Mosaic there for me however)

    - I'm a big Blue Note hard-bop fan and have a prononced "collector side"

    - Mosaic boxes are expensive specially for non-euro or non-US$ countries but if I look how many rare albums or impossible to find album I have on a Mosaic, it's a great buy. If I have to buy 5 or 6 TOCJ to have the music of a Mosaic (ex.: Mobley, Morgan) it would be much more costly.

    - The box (great b & w photos)

    - The booklet

    - And last but not least : the Music :D

    Half.com does not ship outside North America.

    Hans, you are right. I live in Canada and have the same problem. But there is a way to partially bypass this situation if you are a eBay member. Vey often the half.com sellers also sell on eBay. Just make a search for this seller on eBay, if there is a result click on his name to ask him a question and tell him about the cd that you saw on half.com that interests you. Quite often he will answer positively.

    Woody Shaw is a wonderful player. I "discover" him not long time ago when I bought a cd called In My Own Sweet Way from his latest period : it's a real gem. Trumpet and rythm section. Since that time I buy everything I can see from WS, particularly from the 32 jazz series (reissues of his Muse recordings) unfortunately OOP. But I was able to find a few on eBay : Setting Standards, Imagination, Last of the Line, Two more pieces of the puzzle, Little Red's fantasy. All are great music, he can put emotion on standards like few others and his compositions are full of surprises : a hard bop sound but pushed a little further. If you can grab one of those don't hesitate. Also on 32 jazz, sideman for Louis Hayes on The Real Thing and for Neil Swainson on 49th Parallell. Two other great cd's.

    I missed the Mosaic set :( but I recently called someone at Mosaic and had the #3 cd with box and booklet for the price of the cd alone. Great bargain.
