Interesting share! Hunan cuisine is really the most spicy in China, while Sichuan cuisine is tingly due to sichuan pepper. Shousi baocai, duo jiao yutou and maoshi hongshao rou are favorites!

These imagined conversations sound like a strange idea. Would Szwed still be the first place to go to, or this newer book?

Looks interesting, thanks!

Getting ready to leave to New York this coming Thursday to visit brother and family in New Jersey (an opportunity as they are only there for one year). We will be travelling between the 18th and 30th, but will only have a few days for visits having some writing to complete. Have any of you made recent visits or been to some exhibits that you would recommend? As for social history and/or jazz music, would you recommend any particular museum or sights? I am not sure if we will be seeing many concerts since we will stay in Princeton, but will definitely look at the NYC jazz record and might select one night. Thank you all for advice!

Just borrowed the Roy Eldridge from the library, listening to CD5 with Benny Carter, great music.

Australian trio The Necks last night in Paris.
Two sets. Was particularly inspired, and especially by the second set, very focused music, great densities, incredible sounds - it felt strange at times to see that there were only three acoustic instruments on stage (piano, double bass, drums), it had me thinking of some things completely different, like an accordeon or strange fridge noises, waves of sound that overlapped. Really wonderful!

That seems like a large musical field to cross from Monteverdi to Pere Ubu!
Outstanding program from Météo this year again, couldn't resist it.
-
Same here. Ordered it a moment too late during the last sale. Really hope it will come back.
Would also get Clifford Jordan in priority.
1 hour ago, erwbol said:I just bought a copy of a Japanese reissue of Glass Bead Games to be safe. I thought that was probably the best album of that set, so I won't lose sleep over missing out on the Mosaic.
There is also a japanese edition of In The World which seems still available.

Just came back from seeing Charles Gayle, Giovanni Barcella and Manolo Cabras: just great!
I also brought home the record of the three "Live in Belgium" on el Negocito.

Ya it should be a good place, I'll have to go back! I was wondering if it was regular radio at jazz hours (7 to 8) or webradio. But there is another grocery shop nearby were one of the cashiers plays great hip hop and discusses about Pharoah Sanders!
-
Will get this, hopefully soon! I didn't know about the Faust soundtrack! Umea° and Strings should be great. Anybody to comment on the first CD, Big Chunks?
Angoulême 1980 (CD 7) was just released last year on Fou records as a double CD, I have it in my hands right now and it is the complete concert, has a few tracks more.

I heard a track from this ... from the radio in a grocery store while buying fruit, it was really good!!!

Thanks for the notice, will stream this!

The loud glitch on the first track of Desmond's easy living is also really annoying, it's in the midst of Jim Hall's relatively quiet solo.
-
I never saw Chuck Berry live, but I was thinking of concerts like this one:
-
Great tunes, incredible stage presence and engagement often finishing concerts in full sweat! The excitement while listening is still complete.

Gérard Terronès, founder of the Futura and Marge labels has died today according to various french media.
Libération has already released an article here : http://next.liberation.fr/musique/2017/03/17/gerard-terrones-un-libertaire-du-jazz-s-en-va_1556421
The man with the hat still organized monthly concerts at the Java club, a historic club where Edith Piaf used to sing. I remember a memorable afternoon and evening of free concerts there for Jacques Thollot's passing. He was a long-time member of the Anarchist Federation and signed his letters "Fraternité". Certainly a singular personality in this milieu. I tip my hat to him!

Nate Chinen has written an obituary here:

I wasn't aware of Averty but he really seemed like an interesting person. Was there really a time when French TV was inspired and inspiring?

Went to Louis Malle's Le Souffle au coeur (Murmur of the Heart, 1970) at French Cinematheque last night in presence of main actor, then 15 year old, Benoît Ferreux.
Great great movie and Charlie Parker soundtrack!
So, What Are You Listening To NOW?
