  1. For me Horowitz is a hit or a mis... I don't understand his Chopin par example...
  2. I am no expert myself. Very few are. Probably people that knew the man himself or studied the man and his scores understand what Sibelius's music is about. Conductors conducting their on work deliver most pure interpretations !!! But loving music in a personal way is also important indeed. You are right.
  3. i understand. Sibelius was pretty old when he first wrote his first Symphony. He wrote symphonies from 34-58 years old.
  4. I am now listening to the fourth cd and i like the set for sure. From what i read i understood there doesn't exist a totally essential complete set as a whole. If you want cream on your listening experience you have to listen to several seperate recordings of his Symphony's. What i like about this set is that it has a feeling of distance about it but at some spots also a feeling of warmth. I expect it to be played like this. Barbirolli has the same Zodiac Sign as Sibelius. So puristic material i would say... Sometimes slowly revealing it's beauty, and often powerfull in the last movement of the symphony. Sibelius himself liked the way Barbirolli conducted his works so that says a lot to.
  5. I can't say at the moment. Need more time.
  6. Cd 3/4, Symphony's 2 & 3 & 5 & 7 & Pelleas Et Melisande
  7. Tchaikovsky ( very good performance and works well), Lalo
  8. David Toop - Entities Inertias Faint Beings
  9. Speaker Corner Records. Sound is rich... A little harsh sometimes.
