  1. I think it's a shame to see what's happening to both Ford and Chevy. But the unfortunate bottom line is that they are pretty much putting out crap these days.

Their truck lines are still pretty rock solid, but the rest of their fleets are sorely lagging behind their Asian competitors.

The Chrysler group seems to be trying mightily to turn the corner, but their sales have been lagging lately as well. Though their biggest problem is that they have gone back to making what made American cars great in the past. Big engines with huge amounts of HP. Unfortunately, the price of gas has really hamstrung them in that dept. People simply can't see spending $30k+ on cars that are going to beat them to death at the gas pump.

American muscle cars are quite a treat until you realize you can actually see the gas guage moving left when your foot is on the gas pedal.

  2. 36 here, too.

Gave up my career of Ophthalmic Technician 6 years ago when my son was born. Still haven't figured out what to do since. Currently working in building maintenance. Pay is sweet, benefits are out of this world, I get every holiday off that is known to man, and have no complaints at all.

I'd rather be doing something else, for sure, but what it is I don't know.

  3. Never under-estimate the stupidity of the masses.

    Agreed.

I'm a gamer, though not nearly as much as I used to be in my younger days. But I think $600 for a video game machine is insanity all by itself.

But then you have these leeches who buy the machine with the intention of selling it for monstrous profit? I'm not sure if they sicken me more or less than those willing to pay the outrageous prices.

  4. If you are lucky, the impressions made by his thumb and forefinger are embossed with the bright orange sauce that happened to be on his hands.

Another sign of a good BBQ joint, a little complementary employee DNA with each and every order! :tup

And apt description of the finer Mexican restaurants in Florida.

  5. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. It would be great to see that done RIGHT!

Three Stigmata would be interesting, too. Hell, a majority of his novels and stories, would make for a strange, intriguing film if the director was faithful to the source material. So far they haven't tried that even once. I've read a lot of PKD, and I don't recall a single story of his that was mainly concerned with chases and explosions.

    Exactly.

Although Ridley kept that kind of thing to a minimum, every replicant that Deckard killed in the movie died only at the end of some convoluted chase. I thought it really cheapened it a bit and made it seem hokey.

The most chilling part about DADOES is how the replicants are killed. There's never any wild chase, not even many struggles or fights. Just *blam*, dead. I mean, the way he describes them killing the singer in the elevator, man, that gave me goosebumps because of how quickly and coldly he described it.

    Really excellent stuff!

  6. Excellent topic.

Personally I'd like to see Ridley Scott go back and do the entire story of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? I really dug Bladerunner, but the full story would have made for such an eerie and disturbing movie.

Has anyone seen the preview for A Scanner Darkly yet? Can't really tell if it's going to be any good, but it's going to have an interesting look. It's on the Apple Quicktime Movie Trailors site.

I also think that ANY PKD books done correctly would make great movies. I think Lies Inc. would make for one hell of a movie.

    Maybe The Penultimate Truth..............
