Hi everyone, I’m a Norwegian music historian working on a book about Muhammad Ali in popular music. I’m researching Miles Davis’ “Ali (Take 3)” and “Ali (Take 4)”, recorded on May 19, 1970. I understand that the 2003 Complete Jack Johnson Sessions box includes a 120-page booklet with extensive notes. Does anyone here own the box and could check whether the booklet says anything about “Ali”, particularly why the piece was named after Muhammad Ali, or anything about the circumstances in which it was recorded? I’m also curious whether there is any indication that “Ali” was already the title in 1970, rather than a title assigned later to the previously unreleased session material. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best, Tommy
