  1. I love Maps and Legends! It is gorgeous- and it's either that one (or the more recent Manhood for Amateurs) that got me to read the Pullman trilogy.

Maps also has his keynote address for the Eisner awards, which spoke directly to me as I'm making a comic book aimed at the youngsters. Great inspiration if you're so inclined...

And David Hadju's The Ten Cent Plague is sweet too, in a funnybooks + social history kind of way. Also if you're so inclined

  2. Actually that honor belongs to I Me Mine, finished on April 2, 1970 whereas LAWR was finished the day before.

I knew it was something like that, yeah. Still, Ringo was the last one out of the room, and Long & Winding turned out the lights on the charts.

Anybody know why/how Ob-La-Di got issued as a single in the late 70s? WTF was that? I mean, I bought one just to have it, but was there some secret publicity move that I missed that necessitated a "new" Beatles single made of two old songs?

It was part of program in 1976 by Capitol to promote & sell the music all over again. :) "Got To Get You Into My Life" was another song released in '76 as a single. The LP comp. Rock & Roll Music had been released that summer as well. Live At The Hollywood Bowl came out the next. As far as why that (horrid) song you got me, other than it had been a single for another group, so perhaps Capitol thought it was chart-worthy.

    Horrid? Dude:

  3. I was just on the phone in a quiet room and my non-phone ear was distracting me from the conversation. It usually doesn't bother me- humidifier fan at night plus my being totally used to it helps. Funny how reading this thread makes me more aware of it!

My right ear- I suction cupped it on a brick sidewalk in a scrap about 25 years ago- rings worse and crackles/craps out when faced with loud music/constant leaf-blower or vacuum (I have the world's loudest Dirt Devil. Evil) noise, worst in close quarters (my car stereo gets me if I rock it too hard, the dirt devil kills me in the bathroom).

Besides the sidewalk thing there's the years of loud stage volume rock. But yeah, constant ring, damaged upper-mids, otherwise okay.
