  1. Brad, Good question. I believe Buy-It-Now price is $11.95 on eBay. Buy-It-Now from the board save $2.00. Bid low on eBay (Minimum $6.95), and wait X days til auction closes and maybe not get it. Is the maybe worth $3.00? Hal
  2. Jazzmoose, I liked your reply. The smiley face made me laugh. For you free. Ok, maybe not free. Let's just say that I'm not inflexible on that, but on the other hand I don't want this to linger for weeks like some of my eBay sales. Hal
  3. Brad, I assumed by the nature of the board that people interested in this board would know what these were worth. I have no idea what price to post. I know nothing about jazz or jazz collectables. My goal is simple- honor my father's wishes. They were- 1) Try to make sure that the collection ends up with other collectors as best is possible and 2) Get as much for my mother as I can. I'm working on it. Hal
  4. Tuesday, March 16th. Sorry. I was out-of-whack. Reserves: For the same reason that they are not posted on eBay. The goal is to secure the best bid for the set. The proceeds are acting like mom's life insurance from my dad. Therefore, if you post your reserve in advance, that's about all you may get. Avoids collusion in bidding amongst friends. Hope this answered your question. Hal PS. It might be a moot point anyway. We wanted to make these sets available to board members first because we had received a ton of e-mails requesting the sets from members. Unfortunately we have not had one offer on any of the 7 sets we posted on the board. I'm afraid the rest will go straight to eBay if these don't sell.
  5. We are currently offering this discography in MINT condition- no scratches, no dogears, no marks, no notations inside. The price is $9.95 plus $2.75 S&H via Media Mail (domestic US) International buyers contact me for postage. I accept PayPal or US Money Orders. Thanks, Hal
  6. We have 14 sets to sell. It will be coming.
  7. To continue our idea of offering our Mosaic sets to jazz message board members first, we are offering four OOP Limited Edition Mosaic sets. Buck Clayton 144 Ilinois Jacquet 165 Bud Shank 180 Charlie Ventura 182 Background: When my late father would buy a Mosaic set, he would remove the CDs from the box, read through the booklet, and then put the box & booklet into a storage container in the closet. The boxes will arrive to you looking like they came from Mosaic direct. Until Tuesday, March 17th, 8:00PM EST, we will solicit your offers via e-mail to jazzmantom2004@yahoo.com for a silent auction, and we will notify you via e-mail as to the results either way. If you follow these items on eBay and jazz boards, you should know the approximate values of these sets, and we have established reserves on them. Payment: We accept PayPal, Western Union BidPay, US Postal Money Orders, and regular US Money Orders. Immediate shipping with the first 3 options. Regular Money Orders must clear my bank before shipping. PayPal by Friday. Money Orders must reach us within 7 days. What you should expect: We have so far amassed 60 positive feedbacks on eBay and half.com in just 3 weeks and shipped 200+ cds in that time including private orders from board members. We are eBay buyers of things other than jazz as well as sellers so we will not treat you the way we wouldn't want to be treated. We special ordered special 13X13 boxes just to be able to ship these sets and have invested in ample supplies of bubble wrap. Shipping: We will ship just about anywhere worldwide. For domestic shipping we use USPS Media Mail with Delivery Confirmation. The charge for shipping is $9.95 first set/$7.25 each additional set. Postal Insurance is optional, recommended, and extra. Of course, you can upgrade to First Class, Priority Mail, or FedEx. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at jazzmantom2004@yahoo.com. Have fun everyone! Hal
  8. Offer withdrawn 3/17/04 Please follow eBay.
  9. Mom & I had 2 collectors offer us $400 and $500 for the Basie sets separately and without negotiation so we sold them. Quite frankly we were dumbfounded. My mother remebered waiting for my father while he mused over a bargain bin of jazz in North Carolina. He picked up a couple of CDs for $4-5 each. Now mind you, I don't believe for a second that he bought things for value. I know he bought things because he wanted the music or an artist. So back to the story, he bought a disc called Carnegie Hall Christmas 1949 for $3.99. Without even listing it, someone sent us $50 bucks for it. So the market is variable. That I know. Dad was not into the internet or he probably would have spent more money, but I know that if there was something he wanted, he bought it. Anyway, we will list the Mosaics on eBay, I think. The greatest possible audience will see them that way. Thanks everybody! Hal
  10. Ah, now there's the rub. The balance between highest price for mom and getting the music to a true collector. Some dilemma. I hope my dad's looking down with a smile at our effort (or looking up). HAL
  11. Nicely said. Yes that is what I meant. I like the Homer donut thing, too. Now that's priceless.
  12. OK everyone. I need your help. By now, you may have read that my mother and I are liquidating my father's jazz collection. It was his wish that we place the collection with other jazz fans and use the proceeds as life insurance for my mom. (He was too ill in his late adulthood to get insurance). So here's the question- How do we value the Mosaic collection? The pricing doesn't seem to follow any particular reasoning other than demand. We've been made various offers on some of the things, but we don't know if they are reasonable or just someone trying to take advantage of the situation. I'd like to think the former not the latter. Please help. Thanks, Hal PS- We assume you have heard of this estate liquidation, but if you haven't we can send you a MS Excel spreadsheet of the available discs via email. Write us at jazzmantom2004@yahoo.com
  13. Ladies and Gentlemen, I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You!" for all of your support during the sale of my father's jazz collection. Mom & I want to share with you how painful (and time consuming) it is to liquidate his collection. We spent many hours travelling with him to jazz shops in NYC, ordering for him on the internet, and doing mail orders for him. It would have been infinitely easier to dump this off to a used record shop and let a stranger profit from my dad's efforts. The man above called what we're doing "hawking". That was hurtful to us. If he had the opportunity to speak with us first, he would know that it was my father's wish to us in his last year of Cancer that we relocate as much of his collection as we could with other jazz fans and collectors. After we sold what we could, he wanted us to donate the rest to a University jazz program. One thing for sure- he definitely did not want us to "give it away" to a used CD shop. That being said, as mom & I cataloged the collection from dad's files, we searched the web for each CD and priced them 10-15% below the lowest cost we could find for active CDs and for others that were not active, we averaged the last selling prices that were available. So now understanding our price structure, we are willing to offer any collector from this board a 5% discount and reduced shipping costs for direct sales ($2.25 first CD/$1.25 each additional vs half.com $2.49/1.49). If we don't have to pay a commission, why should you? For those of you with families who may not share your love of jazz, you would do them a great service now by cataloging your collection as your legacy to them so they could pass your joy of jazz to others who would appreciate the music. If they don't like jazz, consider it a life insurance policy for them without a monthly premium. The only happiness we have gained from this excercise is that in our mourning for "Tom", the music he loved will play on with people from Europe to Asia to South America and throughout North America through those who have purchased items from the collection. Sorry this was so long, Thanks, Hal Farber
