I've never heard an original Candid pressing, but this sounds great.

Vintage country on a rare snowy day in Georgia:
Bill Cox - The Death of Frank Bowen/When We Sing of Home (Gennett, 1929)
Bill Cox - Browns Ferry Blues/Long Chain Charlie Blues (Conqueror, 1934)
Bill Cox - Rollin' Pin Woman/Star Boarder Blues (Banner, 1934)
Bill Cox & Cliff Hobbs - The Hobo's Lullaby/Old Pinto and Me (Conqueror, 1939)Georgia Yellow Hammers - Pass Around the Bottle/Johnson's Old Grey Mule (Victor, 1927)
Georgia Yellow Hammers - My Carolina Girl/The Picture on the Wall (Victor, 1927)
Uncle Bud Landress and Georgia Yellow Hammers - Christmas Time at Moonshine Hollow/Candy Pulling at Moonshine Hollow (Victor, 1927)
Gordon County Quartet (the same group as above) - Walking in the King's Highway/Beyond the Clouds is Light (Columbia, 1930)The last four records are by the same Calhoun, Georgia group. "Christmas Time"/"Candy Pulling" is attempted humor, but at least the first side includes a nice, although short, version of "Give the Fiddler a Dram."
I thought Georgia had rainy nights, not snowy days.

Happy Birthday!
(Thanks for picking up the birthday thread, Dan. If I remember, I'll try to help out.)

The Life and Music of Warne MarshProbably not essential Marsh, but some interesting music included in that one.

Odd title for the article. Is Miles Davis a jazz pianist? Hey may have played keyboards occasionally, but ...

James Clay & David "Fathead" Newman: The Sound of Wide Open Spaces!!!!
I can't recall ever hearing a record with so many reed squeaks as there are in James Clay's playing here. It doesn't spoil the record for me, but it's certainly strange to hear.

NY Times obituary:
Incidentally, her name is misspelled in the thread title.
I'm another who didn't know anything about her before now. Listening to the first clip in this thread, it sounds as if she had a good
voice. -

Thanks guys! I appreciate your kind words.
In the upper left corner you will see a tab called "browse." Then below "browse" you will see from left to right "forums," "blogs" and "calendar." Click on "calendar," and you will be taken to the calendar which lists "birthdays."
Aha! There's a trick to everything.

I've always liked Mighty Lights (Enja) with Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell. I heard that band play live a couple of times.

I've wondered about that myself.
