Just wondering if any board members might be going.

To those who may be interested in such things and might be in the area, it will be held at Ithaca College (in beautiful upstate NY) this year on June 15-19. I'm going to be performing on some of the jazz concerts, and Mrs. Free For All will be performing on some non-jazz events.

Let me know if you might be planning to attend, I'd love to meet some more Organissimites!

OK, obviously zero interest in this topic, but I'm going to report anyway.

Just got back from Ithaca, had a great time! I heard some AMAZING trombone playing in every style imaginable.

Got to play with Wycliff Gordon, Jiggs Whigham, Ingo Luis and Ludwig Nuss. The last two are from Germany and while I had heard of them, I hadn't heard them play before. Are any of our German members familiar with these guys? All the players were outstanding- each had his own style and "thing".

The final concert was a big band event- the "house band" was the Army Blues. They played some of my charts and really sounded good. Wycliff is an amazing musician and a hellova nice guy too.

The Army Blues band is surprisingly good right now- I guess there was a lot of turnover recently and the band is now stocked with better players and really swings! Also some great trombonists in that group- Matt Neiss and Harry Watters were tearing it up.

Also heard some young players who were winners of various jazz and legit scholarships. I wish I'd had as much together at an early age as these kids do. Good to hear that the trombone still has a future.

A week of trombone overload, definitely- my head's still spinning. But it was a lot of fun. Almost makes all that practicing worthwhile. :)

not familiar with those Germans I'm sorry to report. Did find out about another German trombone player just these days though. Ancient one I am afraid, haven't found out much about him yet, need to search a little still.

Anyhow, Hubert Katzenbeier leads (on trombone) a session which is featured on one half of a GDR LP from 1972. Pretty wild stuff there in an inside/ouside with hip support kind of way. Three extended tracks spread over one side of an LP, rather cool with an alto/flute in support of the trombone and some "wait and see" playing besides the wicked rhythm changes of the first track.

Pleasant surprise.

(nothing to help your thread, sorry...)
