ghost of miles Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 Hey all, I'm sitting in on our afternoon jazz show today, playing a fair amount of Louis (since IU's official observance of the 4th falls on this Monday), including the two aforementioned tracks from PARIS BLUES that I was asking about in the discography forum. In addition, I'll be featuring a late-August 1944 England broadcast of Bing Crosby with Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band. Audio quality isn't so hot, and nothing really revelatory happens, but it's the only time I've ever heard two of America's leading WWII pop culture icons together. (They apparently pre-recorded another broadcast that week, but this is the only material I've been able to find, taken from a 1983 Broadway Intermission LP.) I'll also be playing a couple of cuts off LOUIS ARMSTRONG & FRIENDS, including "Give Peace a Chance," and I'll wrap up with Brother Ray doing "America the Beautiful." You can listen here if you're interested, from 3:30-5 p.m. (1:30-3 California time, 4:30-6 New York). The Bing/Glenn material will be on from roughly 4-4:30. Quote
