JSngry Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 Just got an e-mail w/this info. Its gonna be a 2 CD reissue of SWEET SPACE (1979) & UNTITLED GIFT (1982), neither before on CD. Supporting cast includes Frank Lowe, Luther Thomas (whatever happened to him, anyway?), Butch Morris, Curtis Clark, Steve McCall, Wilbur Morris, Don Cherry, and Denis Charles. To be available through http://ctdltd.com and Cadence. I'd love to include the fron and back cover scans the sender sent, but whoever it was sent the whole message as a .pdf file. I dig Bang muchly, and these are two albums I've only heard. NEver got a copy of them in any form. This reissue is good news! Quote
John B Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 AMG doesn't have a lot t say about these. How would you describe the music? The earliest Bang I've heard is Bangception, live in '82, but I can't imagine these will have all that much in common with the duo set. Quote
JSngry Posted July 10, 2004 Author Report Posted July 10, 2004 It's been years since I've heard them, so I have only vague recollections, but would "loft-y" tell you anything? Quote
John B Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 It's been years since I've heard them, so I have only vague recollections, but would "loft-y" tell you anything? yeah, if you mean in a "Wildflowers NYC Loft Sessions" sort of way. Quote
JohnS Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 Good news indeed, though I wont be persuaded to dispose of my vinyl of "Untitled Gift". Fine session, great group. Quote
SEK Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 "Untitled Gift" is verry Don Cherry, and a great collaboration with Wilbur Morris and Denis Charles. I really enjoy it. I've never heard "Sweet Space"; the personnel are intriguing. I'm looking forward to this release. Thanks for the heads-up. Quote
paul secor Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 (edited) Another for Untitled Gift. And like most everyone else, I've never heard Sweet Space. I have enjoyed most every Billy Bang recording I've heard. Thanks for the info about the reissue. Edited July 10, 2004 by paul secor Quote
Guest Chaney Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 (edited) Now available -- or should I say now listed as available -- from a little outfit called Dusty Groove America for $19.99. Edited July 15, 2004 by Chaney Quote
