bebopbob Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Have any of these broadcasts been made commercially available or are there any plans to release them in the future. Apparantly the tapes of these broadcasts have been donated to the UNLV music library for the use by jazz scholars and "the public". Among the broadcastss I recorded on cassette are: Houston Person and Etta Jones, Scott Hamilton, Lanny Morgan Quintet, Carl Fontana and Bill Watrous, Phil Woods Quintet with Tom Harrell. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I remember that Phil Woods broadcast. They do an Oliver Nelson piece called "111-44" and maybe also "Willow, Weep For Me" among others. That was a great series - superior to the watered-down "Jazzset" that's on nowadays. Mike Quote
Spontooneous Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I remember the show fondly. Even when it featured musicians I didn't care for, it was still fun. I remember a pretty good Woody Shaw quartet set, and an interesting Charlie Rouse-Mal Waldron date. I taped cruddy cassettes of these back in the day -- REALLY cruddy, because the broadcasts were coming from a station 60 miles away. Quote
