Several things make this prohibitive for me at this time finances, time,Hurricane Ivan and a complete lack of desire to spend anytime in federal court. Quote
wolff Posted September 14, 2004 Author Report Posted September 14, 2004 Several things make this prohibitive for me....Hurricane Ivan and a complete lack of desire to spend anytime in federal court. No Hurricanes in December. I hear it's fairly easy to get govt approval to attend this festival, otherwise I would not have mentioned it. Quote

I hear it's fairly easy to get govt approval to attend this festival, otherwise I would not have mentioned it. In this political environment we live here in the US, merely requesting to go to Cuba would immediately put you on some "watch list". It would not be worth the trouble just to go see a Jazz festival. The next thing you know, you're getting audited by the IRS. It may sound funny but I would bet big bucks that this would happen. Nah... I'll stay home and catch a few shows at the Regattabar. Adam Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 (edited) When I went in 2000 it was legal. Well, not travel to Cuba, but this particular trip. The local jazz station, KKJX, (under its previous call letters of KLON) had arranged for 50 visas - cultural exchange - and a travel agency coordinated the tour. We bought packages that included travel, hotels, visa, and tickets to the festival. We took the once-a-week flight from LAX to Havana (on LAN Chile). Returned one week later. We had 4 days in Cuba before the festival ,and also caught the first 3 days of the jazz festival, and missed 3. Of course, I think it's harder to come by those visas. But if an organization has already arranged them, then you just buy the travel package, it would be fine. I wouldn't apply as an individual to the government. Edited September 14, 2004 by Adam Quote
