bebopbob Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 I just found out that CBS-Masterworks ("Sony Classical") is issuing new titles on their "Great Performances" imprint label which seemed dormant for the past fifteen to twenty years. Wow, let there be more great Columbia/Epic/Sony reissues on the way!! I just ordered the Grieg/Schumann Piano Concertos from Tower.com with Leon Fleisher and the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by George Szell. An amazing record from the late 1950s which is finally seeing the light of day on compact disc. I had this recording on Columbia's "Epic" imprint label until I wore it down years ago - now it's finally on compact disc! The Fleisher/Szell recording is one of the finest of the Grieg and Schumann concertos IMHO. Grab this disc - you won't go wrong! Hopefully the return of the "Great Performances" imprint will result in the reissue of more Fleisher recordings as well as other Columbia Masterworks/ Epic recordings that have not been issued on compact disc.
