brownie Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 From the Kansas City Star: Board seeks new resting place for Parker The American Jazz Museum board voted on Tuesday to explore moving jazz musician Charlie Parker's remains to the Historic 18th and Vine District. The decision was spurred by recent dumping where Parker is buried at Lincoln Cemetery, east of Interstate 435 and north of Truman Road. The board favors moving Parker's remains to a mausoleum in a sculpture of Parker at Charlie Parker Memorial Plaza, near the jazz museum. “It would be good to move it (the grave) from an area where no one can find it to down here where … people can come and pay their respects,” said board member Mike White. Board member Ida McBeth said: “It would make the area more valuable.” The board will research the legal requirements and costs of a move. Quote
jazzmessenger Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 It's not that hard to find his grave. I have been there. He is buried there for a reason (I think he is buried next to his mother?), so I am not very supportive of the move. Quote
