BruceH Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 In yesterday's Wall Street Journal (Tues., Nov. 30th) there's a Nat Hentoff article about the Joe Elefante Big Band. He says they are supposed to appear on Nightline this Friday, Dec. 3rd. If they're half as good as Hentoff says they are, it should be worth watching. Here's a piece of the article: "The crisp, sharging brass section of the Elefante band would have delighted Duke Ellington, and the surgingly cohesive reed section recalled the sound of the Benny Carter and Thad Jones big bands. One of the swing-era veterans in this band, Rick Stepton, who had worked with Woody Herman and Buddy Rich, told Dave Marash, of ABC's "Nightline," where the band is expected to appear on Friday, Dec. 3: 'I'm lucky to be my age and welcomed in this band. It's a privilege, not the other way around. It's rejuvenating to be surrounded by youth.'" He's got me curious for sure, and I'll be tuning in Friday, if possible (meaning if my kids will let me.) BruceH Posted December 5, 2004 Author Report Posted December 5, 2004 Well, it didn't happen. So much for that rag, the WSJ. My wife said it was too good to be true. Quote
