AmirBagachelles Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I'll check mine out, maybe do this or just sell it to ya cheap. I picked it up at that Holy Cow used LP store in Park Slope just before they checked out. DC Quote

Not a single half-decent record store left, I think. Quote
Dmitry Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 just had badass moroccan lunch on 77th between 4th & 5th, no lie, Doc. pipes were frozen tho' so it was fuckin' like 35 degrees in I know that place. Forgot the name, it's on the right side if you're going from 4th to 5th, across the street from a barber shop. French-Moroccan Cafe something. If you're into fish you MUST eat at the Bahry, on Bay Ridge Avenue between 4th and 5th. Best fucking fish I've ever had. It's across the street from a joint called Ramallah. Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 You may know that Don's Music fled Amity & Court for L.A. at the end of the summer, said the landlord tripled the rent on that 12'x12' room. Nice guy Don. Dick landlord. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 (edited) so, Baggie, quick like- can we almost say that '80s JGB is consistently better than '80s GD or is that too broad a generalization? Clem--I'm not Baggie, but your statement is consistent with my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I can dig 80's GD _for what it is_, of a time and of a place, but I think JG was utlizing the JGB at that point in time to "get back to the roots," so to speak--his JGB work then was filled with some of the soul, energy and rawness that got stripped out of the GD studio sessions of the time due to wack production, and a bit later in the decade with Brent on keys (at times good AND bad, depending), etc. etc. etc. Sorry to include so many qualifyers in my assessment, but evaluating this music from this time is MANIFESTLY situational-specific, don't you think? Did that help? If not, I can take it! Edited December 23, 2004 by Peter Johnson Quote
Dmitry Posted December 30, 2004 Author Report Posted December 30, 2004 you've already picked over Zig-Zag (hah) but check the 718 outpost of a place we both hit in Manhattan. Which one is it? Academy opened a warehouse in Broo? The best Syrian joint in the hood [bY A WIDE MARGIN[lol]] - Damascus Gate on 5th Ave & 73rd. If you're a meat eater, Fatteh Bil Lahmeh is amazing. On the run - try the Shish Ta'wook sandwich. They put some nice greens in there. And a little mint. I love that. Quote
