I just picked up the CD issue of the Ralph Burns Studio 5 session - now, I'm a Dave Schildkraut fanatic, which is why I picked it up - though I find the session a LITTLE disappointing, as Burns's writing is very pedestrian on this - on the other hand there's plenty of Schildkraut solo space (on the basis of this session Burns voted for Dave as his favorite alto player for one of Feather's jazz encyclopedias) -another funny story, told to me by Bill Triglia - you may note that Schildkraut is a little out of tune on the session; according to Triglia, Dave was mad at something or someone and deliberately de-tuned his alto. Ah, yes, another great musician determined to go backwards on the career path -
