EKE BBB Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 Anyone got this Storyville disc (STCD 8218) released on 2003? Could anybody confirm that Tete Montoliu only plays on these two tracks: "Wait a second" and "Spring is here"? On which exact date were these Tete Montoliu tracks recorded? Who were the rest of the musicians on those Tete Montoliu tracks, apart from Tete and Bent? Thanks in advance!!! Agustín Quote
king ubu Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Got this disc cheaply in a sale and am giving it a first spin. Sounds like Tete alright on the first two titles: Wait a Second (Montoliu) 2:58 Spring Is Here (Rodgers-Hart) 7:15 w/NHOP, Bjarne Rostvold rec. between 1966-76 from the liners by Henrik Wolsgaard-Iversen: "I'd played with Tete for over a half year in a club in Barcelona, and there was plenty going on with all kinds of star soloists. We had many Monday night gigs in Montmartre in Copenhagen, and I think the recording is from one of them Tete was exclusive." Jaedig can't date the recordings, but they're all from between 1966 and 1976.* *) except for the only session that is dated, Copenhagen Jazz Festial 1982, #3 and #6 it seems Actually, why I found this thread is because I was hoping to find correct/more complete details for this very crappily presented disc (containg some very nice music, though!) Quality control, fellas!!! The "Ø"s in NHOP's name are all missing except for one, and there are obvious mistakes in the discography given, very annoying. Bjarne Rostvold is given as drummer on all titles, plus: #1-2 are listed as stated above #3 & #6: Copenhagen Jazz Festival 1982, Ben Besiakov (p), Bo Stief (b) #4 & #9: Atli Bjørn (p), NHOP (b) #5: Paris, Jesper Lundgård (b) #7 & #8: Richard Boone (tb,voc), Thomas Clausen (p), Mads Vinding (b) #10 Niels Husum Septet: Allan Botschinsky (t), Niels Husum (sax), Niels Neergaard (tb), Torben Munk (g), Ib Lund Nielsen (b) Now #3 is "Blues Blues Blues" by Jimmy Heath, the notes say, but it sounds like an over-familiar hardbop tune, I think by the Morgan/Shorter quintet version of the Jazz Messengers (or is it Horace Silver's "Soulville"?). Also, on #6 there's a very fine trombone player present, which leaves room for doubt about this being from the same occasion as #3... These are just some of the "issues" with this disc, I bet by taking a closer look, more questions would turn up... I also tried to look it up on the Storyville website, but it's not working right now. Quote

Jaedig was part of Tete's quintet from October 1961 to April 1962, alongside altoist Dick Spencer, bassist Peter Trunk and drummer Alfonso Bleses. They played regularly at the Jamboree (Barcelona) and recorded a wonderful EP for Zafiro: Z. E. 297 — Tete Montoliu Y Su Quinteto in February 1962. Quote
king ubu Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 could you figure out any of the other problems with this disc? Quote
