sparrow's last jump

sparrow's last jump was a prize winning short story written by elliott grennard and published in harper's magazine in may 1947.

it is supposed to be about charlie parker.

can anybody help me find a copy? i would love to read this!

Yeah...I think the main character is named Sparrow in both cases, although they are two unrelated works. There was another Bird novelization that I can't remember the title of where the character was named "Eagle".

yes, the book is by john a. williams "night song" (1961). the main character was called richie stokes "the eagle". williams the "black balzac" (new york times) writes about "live and dead of a black jazz musician full of pain, indignation and deep liking" (james baldwin).

bird lives or the eagle flies!

well the internet is an amazing place!!!

i knew the story won the o' henry award so i looked for a book of o'henry prize winning stories. found one for the 1948 winners for 5 bucks and took a chance (no table of contents to help me)

sure 'nuff it's there !!!!!!!!!!!!! :):):)
