Harold_Z Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 (edited) my taste buds and some articles in the paper have led me to realize that good old New Jersey is really where it's at when it comes to Hot Dogs. It turns out that Paterson NJ is the city of origin for (are your ready for this) the Texas Weiner. Some Paterson Hot Dog stand owners came up with the idea of deep frying a dog , putting chopped onion, mustard, and a secret recipe "chile like" sauce on it and dubbing it a Texas Weiner. No place in the world turns out a Texas Weiner like Paterson. There are quite a few of the original stands still extant and they are wonderful. Two dogs "all the way" and a side of fries............WHOA ! I have to add to this that when it comes to "dirty water" franks, Newark is the joint ! New York pushcart franks don't compare to the dogs you can get in the park in Newark from several vendors. I'm talking about dogs with hot onions. again....WHOA ! the there is the Newark "Italian Hot Dog". A dog stuffed into a halfo of pita bread along with mustard and french fries. Culinary heaven !! Big Wheel Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 (edited) NYC, for some reason, has a bunch of hot dog/juice bar joints, usually with papaya juice. My buddy told me I had to check out Gray's Papaya, and then I spotted at least one or two other places with the same thing. Is this just a New York phenomenon? (apologies for being slightly OT) Edited June 27, 2005 by Big Wheel Quote

Big Wheel Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 And I think the place I spotted was somewhere downtown between City Hall and SoHo. So that makes at least 3 of this kind of place, and I'm almost sure there are more. Quote
catesta Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Harold Z, my mouth is watering. I can't wait to grab a ripper! We will hit NY/NJ the week of July 11th if all goes as scheduled. Quote
