JSngry Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 The news, posted by Mike Fitgerald, that Shirley Horn MIGHT have been dropped by Verve has me wondering if they might have dropped Abbey Lincoln too. Anybody know? Thanks in advance. Quote
kdd Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Shirley Horn not dropped, big to do about it in the NY Times, many letters to the editor. Abbey Lincoln not dropped, record in the can I believe. Abbey is actually signed to the French wing of Universal who would probably never drop her. Quote
JSngry Posted July 5, 2003 Author Report Posted July 5, 2003 Very glad to hear ALL of that. Thanks! Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 When last I spoke with Laurent Cugny, he was about to come to NYC to do a strings date for Abbey's new CD. That was - beginning of January. He said the saxophonist would be Julien Lourau. No info on ETA. Abbey & Shirley - the finest! Discographies of *both* on my (new) website. Just a coincidence? Of course not. Mike Quote

Michael Fitzgerald Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Ah - thanks. Now, regarding the NYT - in tomorrow's issue (Arts & Leisure) I only see one small correction - where are the many letters to the editor? Were they published or just mailed? Did I somehow miss the big to-do? Mike Quote
kdd Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Last weeks I assume. I saw it somewhere. Letter from Verve, letter from Shirley etc. all insisting she's still signed Quote
