neveronfriday Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 (edited) I just came across a text which mentioned an Art Pepper CD entitled "Jazz Masters". No further info, but with the following titles supposedly on there: 01 - The way you look tonight 02 - Softly, as in a morning sunrise 03 -Airegin 04 - Anthropology 05 - Whims of Chambers 06 - Rhythm-a-ning 07 - Opus de funk 08 - 'Round midnight 09 - Why are we afraid 10 - Gettin' together 11 - Walkin' shoes 12 - Shaw nuff Does anyone have anymore info (label, release date) on this CD, if it existed/exists? I was unable to find any via Google. Thanks Edit: On freedb.org it's listed without any additional info as "The Jazz Masters". Is that that weird French 100 years series? Chuck Nessa Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Seems to be a compilation of Contemporary titles. Quote
neveronfriday Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 Yes. Thanks Chuck. I assume it's some European job. Quote
Claude Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 I think "Jazz Masters" was a japanese series of artist compilations (Fantasy material) from the late 80's. Quote
neveronfriday Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 Well, if anyone has more info I'd appreciate it. I've been searching Google thin, but so far no luck. Maybe I'm also too dumb. Thanks! Quote
neveronfriday Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 Well, I give up. The only other info I could unearth is that there must've been a Buddy de Franco disk in the series as well. Quote
kh1958 Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Speaking of Art Pepper, I recently found Art Pepper and Duke Jordan in Copengagen, a Galaxy 2CD release from eight or so years ago that had escaped my notice. George Cables was late arriving for a European tour, so this is his working group, with Mr. Jordan substituting on piano. This is a very outstanding concert recording that, due to the substitution, focuses on bebop classics (and related standards), rather than on the pieces that he typicially performed live during this period that are otherwise pretty well documented. Another wonderful addition to Art Pepper's late period discography that's a little different from the norm. Quote
