I don't get music off the internet yet, but I read about this service in the PS Audio newsletter. Seems this delivers far superior sound to the other services.

Is this the only music site that delivers uncompressed files?

If you're talking "legal" music, then maybe. If you include "unofficial" stuff, then definitely not. The trading community these days generally insists on uncompressed files. Odd, isn't it, that traders have higher standards than the record companies, at least in regards this?

Some group, I think it may have been Govm't Mule, offers a lower cost for an mp3 download than a FLAC download. Personally, it does bother me that all Ipod downloads are compressed lossily (is that a word?). Otoh, I don't own an Ipod ....yet. I wouldn't think that a losslessly compressed download should cost the same as the real item in silver 3D with packaging and notes. Isn't it cheaper to make a download available than the "old fashion" distribution method? If I had a choice of getting a losslessly compressed download with an art file I would think it would have to be at least half the cost of the cd and booklet/jewel case for me to be interested.

They have to keep the price of downloading artificially high so that they can keep the price of cds artificially high.

Soon though alot of artists will realize that they simply dont need a record company anymore and can sell over the net. Especially once these people are smart enough to offer downloadable booklets and tray inserts.

I manage an online music service and I can tell you that it's still the record labels gouging us. The proft margin on legal music downloads is almost non-existent. Plus record labels increase their rates based on sample rate, so the higher bit-rate, the more we'd have to pay the labels. I've been pushing for us to offer a "lossless" section to our store, but it would require us to raise the price per song to $1.75 per track just to break even.
