Guest Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Hi, Since there has been a bit of discussion and anticipation on this site re: Hum Dono by Joe Harriot and Amancio D'Silva, I'll just mention that we are looking for the right label/imprint for a 1st time full issue of Amancio D'Silva's "Konkan Dance" album recorded in 1974...from which "A Street In Bombay" was lifetd for Impressed with Gilles Peterson 2. Any suggestions or enquiries appreciated. Also, just want to know if there would be sufficient interest to warrant all that's involved with such a release. Regards, Steph D'Silva Quote
Guest akanalog Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 i am interested. have you checked out vocalion? or is it dutton laboratories? the CDs have both names on them-i guess dutton is the guy doing the actual remastering. anyway they are putting out some good brit reissues lately. what about BGO? they are a british joint too, aren't they? and maybe american-wise, water records? i don't know if this is outside their thing-they do some rare groove-ish kind of blue note reissues and stuff like that. nice packaging-usually not the greatest albums, but albums deserving to be out. sidewinder Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 (edited) Hey Steph - how about approaching Dutton Vocalion up in Watford? Their Deram reissues have been good quality soundwise, the label seems to be very good with respect to royalty obligations and they have definitely got the 'niche' for 60s/70s rare jazz reissues. I believe that the point of contact up there at Dutton Laboratories would be Mike Dutton. Another great option would be Trunk Records - again their quality is great and they also issue very nice limited edition vinyl too . This one would get my vote .. (they have a website at www.trunkrecords.com and Johnny Trunk is the man). Another option might be Harkitt, who have also done CD/vinyl issues with Tubby Hayes material. Maybe Simon Spillett over on AAJ could help? (he regularly writes sleeve notes for Harkitt). Great to hear of this (hopefully) possible forthcoming 'Konkan Dance' release by the way. I love the 'A Street In Bombay' track, very groovy. I'll buy a couple at least (and ten if it helps get it issued). Heck, I'd love to be in a position to issue this stuff myself..
