Dateline: St. Paul, MN

The residents of the quiet Midway neighborhood of St. Paul were awakened shorlty after midnight Jan. 25/26 by the crash of a large flat object onto an empty school playground. It was initially feared that this was the result of either a terrorist or extra-terrestrial attack. The latter seemed especially likely as a strange previously unheard type of raucous and oddly compelling music was noted by those who stepped out of their homes to investigate. Several intrepid souls, following the music to its source, came upon the Turf Club on University Avenue. It was there discovered that the Vandermark5 music group from Chicago had blown the roof off of the place. 250 delirously happy patrons at the club seemed ovlivious of the fact that they were no longer seperated from the heavens.

Mayor Randy Kelly later stated that St. Paul was considering instituting border controls to not let more than four Chicagoans into the city at any one time.

So, it was good then? I missed it. :(

At some point during the proceedings a friend I was with turned to me and said: "these guys are monsters". It seemed to me that she meant this in a good way.

It is my conclusion that KVD is the real deal- certainly so with regards to his writing/arranging and ability to keep a smoking band together (recent personnel change notwithstanding). (BTW, the addition of cello to the mix was unexpectedly interesting and, in turns, both beautiful and exciting). And... he seemed like a nice guy who was truly appreciative of the audience and the enthusiastic reception they gave the band.

Can't wait to hear/see these guys again...
