epistrophy arts Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 The UT Performing Arts Center presents the Dave Douglas Quintet, led by powerhouse jazz trumpeter/composer Dave Douglas, a musician the Boston Globe calls, "[one of] the most musical, inquisitive, and prolific of current jazz trumpeters, composers, and bandleaders" Rounding out Douglas' quintet are Donny McCaslin, tenor saxophone; Uri Caine, Fender Rhodes; James Genus, bass; Clarence Penn, drums. The Quintet's first album, The Infinite, was nominated for a Grammy as best instrumental jazz album in 2003. Dave Douglas is widely recognized as one of the most important and original American musicians of his generation to emerge from the jazz and improvised music scene. A prolific recording artist, he has repeatedly been named trumpeter, composer, and jazz artist of the year by the New York Jazz Awards, Down Beat, Jazz Times and Jazziz. I wish I could see both!
