Guest akanalog Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 i almost missed it, but an online store i purchase from-synphonic, had a reissue of rolf kuhn's "going to the rainbow". it said it was a japanese reissue... i dunno. it's definitely sketchy. yes, i bought one.... but i thought people might be interested. this is a MPS album from 12/70 with a very interesting cast... chick corea and joachim kuhn on pianos, organs and e-pianos (not alternating, but simultaneously).... pete warren on bass tony oxley on drums john surman and alan skidmore on sax and kuhn on clarinet. the reissue is sketchy in the extreme. sound is very good, actually-but the LP fascimile cover is sort of a taped together job (the presentation is better than the DMG sketch jobs currently availble, by the way). very interesting album, though...if anyone wants to take a gamble on it. i notice that the CD isn't playing perfectly in my computer drive. hmmmm. i also bought chris hinze's "mission suite" from the same reissue series. this one sounds a bit more like an LP burn with a little crackle though the sound is acceptable. haven't listened fully yet but i liked what i heard. though it also didn't play well in this drive. Guest akanalog Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 tony oxley came to play on this kuhn album! man this is good drumming. the way he is placed in the mix, it sounds like two men are drumming. i don't know why the e-piano/piano combo wasn't used more throughout musical history. i like how kuhn and corea do it on this one. Not strictly on point, but I was listening to the Aretha Franklin gospel album earlier and remarking to myself how effective the piano+another keyboard instrument (here, organ) can be. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 miles davis seems to agree with us as he utilized this format to varying degrees from 1970 and onwards. Quote
