Jim R Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 (edited) http://www.kcsm.org/fcc.htm edit: I posted this as it relates directly to a great jazz station and a music documentary with which most of us are familiar. If it's too close to politics for anybody, I'll delete it. Edited April 8, 2006 by Jim R Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 I don't know what's more ridiculous, the decision or some of the comments on the message board. Quote
Jim R Posted April 8, 2006 Author Report Posted April 8, 2006 What?! Goofy posts on a message board?! Quote
Jim R Posted April 9, 2006 Author Report Posted April 9, 2006 "The FCC's indecency rulings are required to be based on contemporary community standards. KCSM was not the only PBS station in the San Francisco Bay Area market to run this program, but it is the only station to be punished by the FCC." Can somebody explain something to me... the "F" in "FCC" stands for "Federal", yes? The Scorcese series on the blues was aired on dozens (?) of PBS affilliates across the United States, yes? So... how is it that one station (a relatively small and financially unstable one at that, the way I understand it) is being singled out here? Is it simply because a complaint (or a petition?) was filed only against KCSM by some local viewer(s)? I suppose that's it, but it's absolutely mind-boggling to think that the only "indecency" complaint filed in the U.S. in reaction to this film originated in... the San Francisco Bay Area?! It's also kind of odd in that we have a number of other PBS affiliates in the Bay Area, and the vast majority of people would have seen this program on some other station- most of them on KQED (SF). Oh well, the more I try to rationalize this, I suppose the less sense it's going to make. Quote
BruceH Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 I guess "FCC" actually stands for Federal Crock of Crap. Quote
